Why I Gave Up Naked Blogging for My Internet Marketing Blog

But not the kind you're thinking. I'm talking about the kind of blogging or posting to a blog that just sits there naked, waiting to be found, blocks of text without links or related images, under the search radars, no matter how interesting the subject might be. We're talking about taking the proactive approach and making it happen with Zemanta, dressing things up with links and other cool stuff instead of the same old boring crap from me about how great I am or how much I know about social media marketing for small business.

I really had no way of creating any other kind of interest in what I had to say and no way to provide anything else of value or related interest for my readers until Zemanta came along. Well, that's all changed, thanks to Zemanta.

  • I've been using Zemanta for awhile now and you're right, it's saved me a whole heap of time and has allowed me to input links and pictures that I would normally not have bothered with.
  • Do you ever worry about too many outbound links leaking PR or are the
    Zemanta external links no follow?
  • Hi dick. hope all is well with you. I used to run Zemanta while I was using blogger and I found it to be an interesting tool that indeed can spice up your blogging efforts. It would suggest keywords for tagging purposes, related images and all the good stuff. My concern was always about the related articles as I am not sure how their algo's work. Seemed to never have worked for me, so I decided to scrap it. Maybe in the near future I'll give it another shot. Now the fact that it does not work for me does not mean it won't for others and the only way to find out is by using it and see how it goes, right ;-)
  • Hi DiTesco, all is dandy here - I am evaluating Zemanta cause I'm leaking pagerank like a sieve but when I started I really had nothing to lose. Thanks for your input as usual well spoken....
  • Hi Dick. This is so true, Zemanta is really a time saver and a great way to discover closely related content. I use it everyday since I have it installed as a Chrome extension.
  • Do you ever worry about leaking pagerank with all those external links going out? When you apply tags do you keep them to a minimum and tightly focused on relevance to your post?
  • Ileane
Excellent question. I use the SEO Site Tools extension to check this and it turn out the Zemanta links are NoFollow (at least on my blog they are). Sometimes I'm more careful with my tags than others, but I really don't spend much time thinking about it. For example on one of my blogs (blogspot) it turns out a Feedburner post that has very few comments is bringing plenty of search traffic to the blog. So I made sure to follow up with a few more FeedBurner tutorials with carefully selected tags. Ironically none of the new posts has done as well and the original one is still tops!! See what I mean :)
  • Ive been accused of "lazy blogging" using tools like Zemanta and Arkayne, the 2nd one you might not be familiar with. I have a post coming out about Arkayne soon now that I have used it as an SEO tool for a couple of months. If your Zemanta external links are no follow that means no pagerank leaks out with them? but if you worry too much about external linking, how else to get people to link back, you can stay awake nights thinking about it.
  • Hello Ileane,
Yes, I am enjoying Zemanta and it's a real thrill when it "suggests" your
articles and images to go with a post .I just felt that more than anything
Zemanta "dresses" up a post! Great to hear from you!

Dick it saves so much time when you need a find the right image!
  • yes and fun to find your own images with them
  • Dick,
Great title. I just had to check it out. I have heard of Zemanta and have seen it on a couple of blogs but I have not yet tried it for myself. Nice breakdown of the benefits and it seems like it is working good for you. I am wondering if you have seen a measurable increase in traffic or conversions?
  • Thanks Dan,

I havn't been using it long enough to see measurable results really but
suspect that as I go through my archives and apply Zemanta to previous posts
that I will start seeing some increases, thanks for your comment, always a
    pleasure to see you here.

    Dick
